Your photos never leave your Mac.
The short version: every edit, sort and export happens on your Mac — nothing about your photos is ever sent anywhere. The only data we hold is what running a paid licence actually needs: an email address, a purchase record, and which Macs have activated a key.
What the app does with your photos
Every edit, sort, pick and export in SqwarkPic runs on your Mac, using Apple's on-device Core ML and Core Image frameworks. There is no upload step, ever — not for a preview, not for a "smarter" result, not for anything. The app has no account system and no analytics: we don't know how many photos you've processed, what's in them, or that you even opened the app today.
What buying a licence tells us
When you buy through the $29 Stripe checkout, Stripe hands us your email address along with its own internal identifiers for the purchase — a customer ID, a payment ID and a checkout session ID. We use those to generate a licence key and store it, with your email and those Stripe IDs, in our licence database. We never see your card number or any other payment details — Stripe handles the charge entirely.
What activating a licence tells us
When you activate a key in the app (About → Activate), SqwarkPic sends the licence key, a randomly generated device identifier and your Mac's device name to license.sqwark.io, so we can enforce the licence's 2-Mac limit. We store that device ID, device name, and when it was first and most recently activated. The device identifier is a random ID the app generates for itself — never your Mac's serial number, hardware UUID or anything else that identifies the physical machine beyond that app-chosen value.
The lost-key form
If you use "Lost your licence key?", we log the requesting IP address for one hour, purely so the form can't be hammered into spamming an inbox. That log entry isn't linked to your email or licence and isn't kept beyond the hour.
Update checks
SqwarkPic checks for new versions using Sparkle, an open-source updater, against a feed hosted on GitHub. That check reaches raw.githubusercontent.com and, when you download an update, github.com — and like any web request, your IP address is visible to GitHub while it runs. We don't enable Sparkle's optional system-profile reporting, so no information about your Mac's hardware or software beyond that IP address is sent. You can decline any update, or turn automatic checks off entirely, from the update dialog.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of processors to run the licence and the site — none of them ever see your photos:
- Stripe — processes your payment. We never see your card details.
- Cloudflare — runs the licence server and its database, and hosts this website. It also runs Web Analytics for the website, which sets no cookies and doesn't identify visitors.
- Resend — sends the licence-key and lost-key emails.
- GitHub — hosts app downloads and the update-check feed, reached directly by the app on your Mac, not by us.
What we don't do
- We don't sell, rent or share your data with anyone beyond the processors listed above.
- We don't run trackers or ads, and the app itself has no analytics of any kind.
- We don't read, store or ever see your photos.
- There's no account system to speak of — a licence key is all there is.
Your rights
Email [email protected] any time to see what we hold against your licence, or to have it deleted. Deleting your data revokes the licence key — it'll stop being able to activate or validate on any Mac.
